Parental leave stories from our employees

In 2023, we introduced a gender-neutral global parental leave policy that provides a minimum of 12 weeks of paid parental leave to all employees across our organization. This initiative aligns with our commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse culture at Epiroc. Since its implementation, several of our employees were able to take the 12-week parental leave and are eager to share their experiences with us.

This is Marcus Campos, Services Analyst Jr. in Epiroc Brasil and this is his story:

"As one of the first people in Brazil to benefit from the new parental leave policy, I believe it was a pivotal moment for my family. It allowed me to be with my wife during the crucial early weeks of our daughter’s life. Living far from our hometown and lacking a support network, this opportunity to be actively involved and learn every day left a lasting impact on me. As first-time parents, we faced challenges that demanded patience and calmness, but we tackled them together. The positive moments and benefits from the parental leave policy will be cherished memories. Epiroc’s commitment to its employees through this policy makes us even prouder to be part of the team."

"This time was very important for me since I was able to spend more quality time with my son, learn responsibilities such as feeding, cleaning, and ensuring his daily safety and well-being. 
The added value for me and my family was establishing stronger bonds during the first days, being there during my son's growth process, my wife's recovery process, sharing responsibilities and this generates deeper bonds for us as a family."

“On October 16, 2023, my wife and I welcomed our beautiful daughter into the world. The joy and excitement we felt were immeasurable. However, as any new parent can attest, the early days of parenthood come with their share of challenges and sleepless nights. Thanks to Epiroc’s progressive paternity leave policy, I was fortunate to be fully present during these precious moments. 
Epiroc’s recent decision to extend paternity leave from three days to twelve weeks is transformative. As one of the first employees to benefit from this policy, I cannot overstate the positive impact it had on my family and me. 
There were times when the exhaustion felt overwhelming but knowing that I did not have to rush back to the office made a significant difference. I was able to stay awake through the night, soothing my daughter back to sleep, and support my wife without the pressure of work-related tasks the next day. This period allowed us to bond deeply as a family, creating a strong foundation for our future. 
I am deeply grateful to Epiroc for acknowledging the importance of paternal involvement in the early stages of a child’s life.
